Based on a broader definition of the class of Refractory Metals, this class of metals have similar properties, namely:

  • Excellent Wear / Abrasion Resistance
  • High Melting Points (>2000 °C), Strength and Hardness
  • Resistance to Thermal Shock
  • Chemically Inert
  • High Densities
  • Good Electrical and Heat Conductivity
  • Resistant to Creep Deformation when exposed to very high temperatures.

As such, Refractory Metals are typically used in Lighting and Production Tools.
